HanMadi (the “App”) is an AI conversation app for Japanese speakers learning Korean. Hong Seungjin (“we”, “us”) handles the information you entrust to us as described below.
Learning & conversation data: transcribed speech, conversation history with the AI, saved expressions for review, pronunciation scores, learning records.
Voice data: audio recorded for conversation and pronunciation practice (see §3).
“Conversation memory” (optional, off by default): summaries of things you mention, collected only if you turn it on (see §4).
Early access: the email address you submit on our website.
Payment details such as card numbers are handled by Apple or Google; we do not receive them (§11).
2. How we use it
To provide the App and its features: AI conversation, speech recognition, pronunciation assessment, translation.
To store and show your learning records and provide review features.
To respond to inquiries, prevent abuse, and maintain and improve the service.
To manage subscriptions and apply free-tier usage limits.
To send launch and important notices (for early-access sign-ups).
3. Voice data
Audio you record during conversation or pronunciation practice is sent to an external speech-recognition service (§5) to recognize what you intended to say and to assess pronunciation.
Audio is sent only as needed for recognition and is not retained after processing as a rule. If, in the future, we wish to store audio or transcripts to improve service quality (e.g. analyzing pronunciation patterns common to Japanese speakers), we will ask for your consent in advance. You may withdraw consent at any time.
4. “Conversation memory” (optional)
The App has an optional feature that remembers things you mention (e.g. interests or recent events) to make conversations feel more natural.
It is off by default and collects data only if you enable it.
You can view, delete individual items, or delete everything at any time in Settings, and turn the feature off.
We aim not to collect sensitive information.
5. Processors & third parties
We do not share personal data with third parties without your consent, except as required by law. To operate the App, we entrust processing to the following providers and transmit data as necessary:
Supabase Inc. (USA): authentication, database, storage (hosting).
OpenAI, L.L.C. (USA): text processing for AI replies and speech synthesis.
Naver Cloud Platform / CLOVA (Korea): audio processing for speech recognition and pronunciation assessment.
Papago (Naver, Korea): text processing for translation.
Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., USA): crash and error diagnostics.
Apple Inc. / Google LLC: sign-in authentication and payment processing.
These providers and countries may change as the service evolves; the current list is kept on this page.
6. International transfers
As above, personal data may be transferred to providers located outside Japan, including in the United States and Korea. For the data-protection regimes of those countries and the measures those providers take, please refer to each provider’s published privacy policy. On request, we will provide what information we have.
7. Retention
We retain information for as long as needed to fulfil the purposes above or while your account exists. After account deletion or the expiry of any legally required retention period, we delete or anonymize the data appropriately. Voice data is handled as described in §3.
8. Security
We take reasonable measures — such as encryption in transit and access controls — to protect information against loss, leakage, or damage.
9. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, suspension of use of, or deletion of the personal data we hold. You can delete learning records and “conversation memory” from within the App; for account deletion or the requests above, contact us at the address below.
10. Children
The App is not intended for use by people under a certain age. Minors should use it only with the consent of a parent or guardian.
11. Payments
Subscription payments are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Payment details such as card numbers are handled by Apple/Google; we do not collect or store them. Pricing, renewal, and cancellation are governed by the Terms of Service and each store’s policies.
12. Changes
We may revise this policy in response to legal or service changes. For material changes, we will notify you in the App or on our website.
